In 2021, we completed the redevelopment of a former disused industrial area in Via Moncucco, Milan. The building, dating back to the 1960s and originally used for steel industry activities, has now become Superstudio Maxi, the third exhibition hub of Superstudio Group and one of the largest and most technologically advanced event venues in the city.

The project, carried out in the midst of the pandemic, covered an area of about 10,000 m², of which 7,200 m² are indoor and 2,800 m² outdoor. Superstudio Maxi is the first event venue in Europe to receive LEED Gold certification, thanks to design choices focused on sustainability and energy efficiency.

We managed the entire construction process, adopting dry construction systems for both the façade and the roof. The layered façade system improves thermal and acoustic insulation, giving the building a uniform and contemporary appearance, while preserving its industrial identity.

The roof was built using high-performance sandwich panels, exceeding regulatory requirements and facilitating the integration of the photovoltaic system. The roof functions as a technological platform serving the spaces below.

We also intervened on the existing steel structure, implementing seismic retrofitting and applying intumescent coatings to ensure safety for public use of the premises.

To contribute to the LEED certification, we selected materials with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), reducing the overall environmental impact of the construction site.

This project was made possible thanks to the collaboration with an innovative and visionary client – Flavio Lucchini, Gisella Borioli, and Tommaso Borioli – with whom we shared a common goal: to transform an industrial building into a landmark for art, culture, and sustainability.
